Rehydrating Your Sourdough Starter

Supplies You'll Need

  • Food scale
  • Jar (these are my favorite jars for sourdough)
  • All-purpose flour
  • Water

Rehydrating Your Starter

Day 1

  1. Measure out 1oz of dehydrated sourdough chips into a jar
  2. Add 2oz of lukewarm water
  3. Tamp the chips down if necessary so they're all covered by water
  4. Stir the chips/water occasionally. It’ll take 3 hours or so to dissolve the chips
  5. Once everything is fairly dissolved, feed the starter with 1oz of flour
  6. Cover and put somewhere warm/draft-free for about 24 hours

Day 2

You should start seeing some bubble action! WITHOUT DISCARDING ANYTHING, feed the starter with 1oz of lukewarm water and 1oz of flour. Cover and put back in its warm spot for another 24 hours.

Day 3

Again, WITHOUT DISCARDING ANYTHING, feed the starter with 1oz of lukewarm water and 1oz of flour. Cover and let it do it's thing for another 24 hours.

Day 4

By now your starter should have doubled in size and be full of bubbles and life! If not, give it another feed with 1oz of flour and 1oz of water. Sometimes depending on the room temp, it can take a little longer to come back to life.

If your starter has doubled in size and is bubbly, you're ready to start your baking journey!
